Pune to Lonavala Taxi

Pune to Lonavala road trip doesn’t take more than 2 hours of driving, irrespective of the route you choose. 

The common route to reach Lonavala from Pune is via Bengaluru – Mumbai Highway/Mumbai – Pune Highway/Mumbai – Pune Expressway/Mumbai – Satara Highway/Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway. It is around 67 km long and requires 1 hour and 30 minutes of travel time. 

Another route takes around 1 hour and 50 minutes and goes via Old Mumbai – Pune Highway. It is 63 km in distance.

Lonavala Lake

Calming waters surrounded by valleys and green lawns form the picturesque Lonavala Lake. This lake is formed from the water of the Indrayani River. To witness the lake’s beauty at its maximum, visit in monsoon. Once here, you can relax and have a picnic or go for nature walks. Bird watching is also common here. 

Bhushi Dam

Located on the Indrayani River, Bhushi Dam promises an experience, unlike any other dam. Here, as the water of the Dam flows down the steps, tourists can sit and play in it. Post monsoon, or during the rainy season, the dam looks especially striking. Various stalls selling local snacks and tea are also located near the Dam. 

Rajmachi Point

13 km from Lonavala, Rajmachi Point is a must for nature lovers and photographers. It is a sought after trekking location among adventure seekers too. The view of Rajmachi Fort from here is breathtaking. Near to this point, you can also visit Monkey Point, Sunset Point and Lions Point. 

Karla Caves and Bhaja Caves

Built in 2nd century BC, Karla Caves complex is a group of 16 rock-cut caves, which belong to the Mahasanghika sect of Buddhism. 12 km away from the Karla Caves, you will find Bhaja Caves, which are a group of 22 rock-cut caves, also dating back to 2nd century BC. The main cave, Chaitya, has a prayer hall. They are located 400 feet above the village Bhaja. 

Tiger’s Leap

Located 8 km from the town’s centre, Tiger’s Leap stands at a height of 650 metres above sea level. One of the best viewpoints of Lonavala, it is known for its exceptional views of the sunset and sunrise. In fact, even at other times of the day, the panoramic view of the Western Ghats from here is hypnotising. 

Along with these, there are many places to visit in Lonavala such as Wax Museum, Lohagad Fort,  Tikona Fort, Rajmachi Fort, Pawna Dam, Valvan Dam, and Tungarli Lake. Another popular hill station, Khandala, is also located within a few kilometres and is worth exploring. 

When in Lonavala, you can spend many hours in outdoor activities. From adventurous to relaxing, there are all kinds of things to do in this hill town.

The best time for the Pune to Lonavala road trip is throughout the year, except during the rainy season. Weather in this hill station is pleasant all round the year. But for the best holiday experience, you can plan your road journey from Pune to Lonavala in summers, from March to June or in winters. If you go in winters, the valleys are much greener after the monsoon rains, making the hill station even more scenic.
